My Approach to Counseling
I do my best to offer clients warmth, curiosity, authenticity, collaboration, and a sprinkle of humor. I want our work together to feel approachable, genuine, and far from sterile. I balance empathy and validation with thoughtful observations and questions that may challenge you at times; I work to ensure you feel seen, heard, and understood, while also supporting your growth. I check in throughout our work, welcome feedback, and adjust care accordingly. Previous clients have described my approach as "calm and grounding", "gentle but direct", and have said I "helped [them] connect with the parts of [themselves they've] been scared of".
I tailor the types of therapy and interventions I use to clients' specific challenges and goals. I draw from the following types of therapy to support our work together:
-Psychodynamic Therapy helps people understand how past experiences shape their current experiences.
-Narrative Therapy explores the stories we tell ourselves about our life and helps us re-write the stories that aren't serving us anymore.
-Internal Family Systems works to connect with and integrate the parts of ourselves that have been pushed away or kept hidden.
-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) supports us in working towards acceptance, clarifying values, and acting on our values.
-Multicultural Counseling focuses on understanding people within their unique cultural identities and systems they navigate, and exploring how this impacts their mental health and wellness.
-Family Systems Therapy looks at our lives through the lens of family/caregiver dynamics, roles, and multigenerational patterns.
-Somatic Therapy helps build body awareness and regulation (soothing) skills. [This does not involve physical touch; I verbally guide people through this process.]
-Mindfulness deepends our awareness of the present moment without judging it or trying to change it.
-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) looks at how our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors connect, and builds skills to shift patterns no longer serving us.
